Rehabilitation of Panawa Village Road

08-07-2017 | By : Arkora Hydro

A 900 metre sealed road connecting the sub-villages of Cikopo and Pasir Lenggut within the Panawa Village area was officially opened on the 3rd of July, 2017. The 3 metre wide Arkora Hydro designed and funded asphalt road replaces the poorly maintained and deteriorated gravel track, allowing greater ease of movement for the local communities which improves access to local schools, workplace, intercommunity trade and basic medical services. The road is accompanied by a stone and mortar roadside drainage system that diverts runoff, thus preventing damage, erosion, water over the road and danger to road users.

Local community members including the village chief were consulted prior to the commencement of the project, with this local stretch of road identified as an area in need of upgrade. The remote location of Panawa Village within the greater Garut Regency means that it is often overlooked for funding by the local government, with much of the local infrastructure outdated and poorly maintained. Total of 25 local individuals were employed throughout the 6 week construction period, with the hiring of residents prioritized through the contracting of Garut based road surfacing company. The construction of the road commenced on the 19th of May and was formally opened by the Village Chief on the 3rd of July, 2017.
